The 2011 AlKindi Student Workshop on Cryptology

The 2011 AlKindi Student Workshop on Cryptology is a new initiative organized by the post graduate students in Khalifa University. This workshop is considered the first of its kind in the region. The workshop aims at providing a forum for both undergraduate and graduate students to present their research work in the area of cryptology. Students will have a chance to interact with other young researches and renowned figures and experts in the field.  In addition to students’ presentation, the workshop will include two tutorials.

The UAE Forum in Information and Communication Technology Research 2011 (ICTRF2011) is organized by Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), and co-organized by the Emirates Advanced Network for Research and Education (ANKABUT), and ETISALAT-BT Innovation Centre (EBTIC). The event is sponsored by ETISALAT, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the ICT Fund, and technically sponsored by the IEEE. This year’s forum is a continuation of the “UAE Forum in Information and Communication Technology Research 2010” (ICTRF2010) which was held in Abu Dhabi, KUSTAR campus in May 2010. The forum attracted academics and industry professionals from the various ICT sectors.

The general theme of this year’s forum will be on “Creating Impact through ICT Research and Innovation” which includes sessions on: Initiating Research and Innovation through Network Enabled Applications, Achieving and Measuring Impact through Research Funding, and Emerging Research Areas in ICT. The main topics in these sessions will be presented and discussed by prominent invited international speakers.

Mobile Phone Application Contest

The Mobile Phone Application Contest is a yearly contest which focuses on building mobile phone applications that are original and culturally-focused. The contest provides an excellent opportunity for students majoring in Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Telecommunications to show their skills in developing mobile applications, and to meet students from other UAE and Arab and North African institutions. A two-day training session in developing mobile applications through Nokia Qt and Android will be offered free of charge for one student from each registered team. Also a CISCO Entrepreneur Institute Course ‘Starting a business’ will be offered to a member of each registered team, courtesy of Khalifa Fund.
